Immediately after Thanksgiving, the rush begins and everyone is reminded that there is only a month left before Christmas arrives. The stores have had displays since before Halloween. Sale flyers arrive in the newspapers and mail almost daily. The children have begun pestering their parents about their Christmas lists.
But all of these things point to the commercial side of Christmas and not to the religious. While attending church every week discusses the reason for Christmas, many times it is not enough to drown out the commercial side of the holiday. However, there are many customs that can be observed within the home, which not only focuses on the beauty of the holiday, but can bring everyone closer together this holiday season.
Religious Customs
Many family customs are based in religion. This can be intimidating for the family that is not overly religious. Christmas is a great opportunity to learn more about the faith and to institute a year long devotion. However, each of these customs can be varied to individual comfort levels.
