As the charismatic tenth actor to take the name of The Doctor, an alien Time Lord from Planet Gallifrey, British actor David Tennant brings much to his portrayal of the iconic sci-fi legend, in this compilation of special episodes from the past year or so, courtesy of BBC Home Video. Here is a summary of the better segments:
The Next Doctor
In the first of the five episodes offered in this set, The Doctor (Tennant) travels back to London in the year 1851, on Christmas Eve. While there he discovers that not only have some prominent men been found murdered in unusual ways, but that the deaths may have been caused by the futuristic, Borg-like Cybermen. While he investigates this latest threat to Victorian England, The Doctor comes across a man claiming to also be The Doctor (David Morrissey), which is puzzling since a Time lord should rarely be able to travel within his own time line.
As this so-called "Other Doctor" suffers from amnesia but seems to hold a lot of knowledge only a Time Lord would possess, both men unite to fight their common enemy, currently controlled by a nefarious English lady named Miss Hartigan. Seeking to help the robots build a giant automaton which would terrorize the city, Hartigan gets more than she bargained for, in this Christmas episode, which scored an impressive 13.1 viewers when it originally aired.
