There are many popular mystery series for children and most of them have one or more volumes with a Christmas theme.

Nancy Drew

Secret Santa by Carolyn Keene (The Nancy Drew Notebooks, Simon & Schuster, 1994) A Secret Santa has been organised for Nancy's third grade class and everyone is receiving presents, except for Nancy Drew. Could it just be an innocent mistake or is something sinister afoot?

Mistletoe Mystery by Carolyn Keene (Nancy Drew Digest, #169, Aladdin, 2002) Someone is stealing dresses from Albemarle's department store. Nancy sets out to find the thief and clear the name of Ali Marie. But are there too many suspects and too many Christmas shoppers getting in the way? A great read for 9-12 year old girls.

Scooby-Doo

Scooby-Doo and Santa's Bake Shop by Jesse Leon McCann (Scholastic, 2000) A fun adventure where Scooby and the gang try and find the thief who stole Santa's sack of presents. With scratch and sniff clues, this interactive mystery will get the kids thinking and delight their senses as well. Good for very young children but may annoy parents as the stickers do not always match the pages they were designed for.

The Christmas Cookie Case by Maria S. Barbo & Duendes Del Sur (Scooby-Doo Picture Clue Book Series, Scholastic, 2004) Scooby and Shaggy have been busy baking cookies for Santa, but now someone has stolen them. Can the Scooby Gang solve the crime? An early reader for children who are just starting to read independantly. Some words are replaced with pictures to help the children along.

Jigsaw Jones

The Case of the Santa Claus Mystery by James Preller (Scholastic, 2006) It's a tough assignment when Jigsaw Jones is hired to help Sally Ann Sims meet Santa Claus. Will Santa be clever enough to avoid Jigsaw Jones' trap or will Sally Ann get her wish? A fun story for beginning readers.
