Jim Henson's muppets are no strangers to Charles Dickens' overdone classic, A Christmas Carol. There was the 1992 movie The Muppet Christmas Carol, starring Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge. That flick brought us the immortal lines: "Mother always taught me, 'Never eat singing food'" and "Light the lamp, not the rat!"
This time, it's the cast of Sesame Street taking on Dickens' story, with my favourite character Oscar the Grouch (he lives in a garbage can! How cool is that?) playing the Scrooge role. Oscar's cranky temperament leads to him being visited by three ghosts: a British Oscar, a talking Christmas tree and a robot. These three visitors, along with Elmo, Big Bird, Ernie, Bert and the rest of the Sesame Street gang, teach Oscar the true meaning of Christmas. The special also features the voices or Tim and Kristen Chenoweth.
In addition to its direct-to-DVD release, the special will show on Sprout on-Demand from November 17 to 23rd, as well as several dates in December.
