Since the advent of the internet using mail is on a steady decline over much of the world. Why write, stamp and send a letter when you can email, all in less time and for nothing? And why send a card at Christmas when electronic mail does the job? Soon no one will exchange cards by mail.

Or will they?

In Canada at Christmas 2010 many seemed to find that electronic mail wasn't good enough and the decline in using the mail system may have hit its bottom. In that country Christmas snail mail during the holiday season in 2010 was up 2 percent from 2009. After years of steady decline that number is significant. Why though? And why in the U.K, as reported by the BBC in December of 2010, does the Royal Mail still need 20,000 or more temporary staff to help with extra Holiday volume?
