Flashback to Nov. 29, 2001: headlines of the late George Harrison, former lead guitarist for the world-renowned pop sensation the Beatles, were scattered about almost every important news channel blazoning the singer's death along with an all-day broadcast of classic interview and concert footage spanning his four-decades-long career. While Harrison's life was cut short, having lost his six-month battle with lung cancer at the age of 58, Harrison's timeless musical contribution manifests a fulfilling life well-lived and a legacy well-honored.
From The Quarrymen to Beatlemania
From his early beginnings playing with the late John Lennon's first band, The Quarrymen, in 1958 at the tender age of 15, Harrison played the role of the battle-scarred baby of the group, whose adroit guitar-playing was the determinant responsible for keeping the youngster in the band. When Lennon renamed the Quarrymen the Beatles in 1960, Harrison was dubbed the "quiet Beatle" after his distinctive professionalism and humble ilk.
When the group was discovered by soon-to-be manager Brian Epstein in 1961 at a pivotal performance at the Cavern Club in Liverpool, Harrison alongside Lennon, Paul McCartney and Richard "Ringo" Starkey were aesthetically transformed from hard-looking rock n'rollers to refined, sauve gentlemen in suits sporting their signature mop-tops.
